Technology

Mission Statement:

Recognizing the role that technology has assumed in our society, it is important that technology be an integral part of our students' education. The role of technology as a communications tool should permeate all aspects of student education, including, as deemed appropriate: classroom teaching, administrative support, library support, and student activities. Also, students should have the opportunity to learn the computer skills necessary for academic research.

Technology Goals:

Faculty and students will use information technology and telecommunications to enhance student learning and to meet and exceed State learning standards. To accomplish this it is important to promote a high degree of information literacy on the part of students, faculty, and administrators.

Student Learning:

Up-to-date technology will be further integrated into the educational process, together with established tools, to accomplish and enhance student learning.

1. In the classroom, technology will be used effectively to structure ideas, introduce content, stimulate analytical thinking, and provide repetition. Classroom use of technology includes presentations by faculty and students, information access through the library and the Internet, data collection and analysis, preparation of individual and group reports, introduction to and use of applicable educational software.

2. Outside the classroom, students will use technology to complement their classroom learning. This includes conducting research, preparing assignments, organizing presentations, using graphics for analysis, and compiling group projects.

Faculty Development:

Technology that is deemed appropriate for educational use will continue to be added to the teaching tools available for faculty. Teacher training will provide the familiarity needed to incorporate the new technology into the educational process. All teachers are expected to use technology to enhance student learning in and out of the classroom. Teachers are also expected to use technology in preparing for classroom activities.
