Academic Excellence at MSU

On the last day of school, before the Christmas Holiday, the entire student body of the Academy of Mount St. Ursula gathered in the school chapel to celebrate Christmas Mass. The Mass was followed by an assembly in the auditorium to honor students for their academic, extracurricular and service achievements during the first quarter of the 2007-2008 school year.

The assembly began with the recognition of second and first honor students. Overall, sixty-two students achieved first honors, an unweighted average of 89.5 or higher, for the first quarter. Additionally, Danielle Flores '09 was presented with a certificate from the National Vocabulary Competition for making it to the top ten out of 13,000 competitors from New York City.

Student Council presented its newly elected freshman representatives. Five freshmen read their pledge of commitment and service to their class in front of the entire student body. Additionally nine students were recognized for completing 50 or more hours of community service and two completed 100 or more hours during this first quarter alone.

The faculty and staff of Mount St. Ursula are proud of, but certainly not surprised by, the accomplishments of their students. "We have a long tradition of academic excellence at Mount St. Ursula and our girls are eager and well prepared to take on a variety of academic challenges and extracurricular opportunities which are part of their holistic education," noted Sr. Mary Beth Read, OSU, principal.

The assembly ended with a Christmas concert performed by the Class of 2010 and the school's choir - the MSU Vocalists. Santa Claus stopped by to wish the girls a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
