MSU Hosts KIPP Academy

This summer the Academy of Mount St. Ursula is opening her doors to the KIPP Academy Charter School, a nationally recognized middle school of academic excellence located in the Bronx since 1995. KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) students and parents are committed to three weeks of summer classes in addition to their extended school days and Saturday classes throughout the year. KIPP Academy is housed at a public middle school at IS 151. Because of construction and electrical work, the IS 151 building closed for the summer. Mount St. Ursula, located in Bedford Park, rolled out welcome mats and the faculty, staff, students and parents of KIPP Academy found a temporary home for the month of July.

"While we are not in our school building, the rigorous character and academic instruction of our students remains the same," stated Blanca Ruiz, KIPP Academy Principal. "MSU has helped teach and model to KIPPsters the value of hospitality, kindness and citizenship." Mount St. Ursula strives to create a community that promotes a love of learning and is committed to fostering the holistic development of each student. "We have had a wonderful relationship with KIPP Academy, and have had several of their graduates attend MSU," noted Jane Martínez Dowling, MSU president. "We are thrilled that we are able to use this opportunity for Serviam, Mount St. Ursulas motto, to our Bronx neighbors."
