Ring Day 2007
On Friday, October 19, 2007, the senior class from the Academy of Mount St. Ursula became part of a 48 year old tradition. Beginning at Poe Park, the class of 2008, led by the 52nd precinct, made their way down the service road of the Grand Concourse to 199th Street on rollerblades. When the students arrived at the school, they were greeted with cheers, balloons, flowers, and applause from family, faculty, staff and their sophomore "sisters". A formal assembly followed which included, a comedic skit performed by the junior class, a vocal performance by the sophomore class, and National Honor Society nominations.
Additionally, two students received scholarship awards. Stephanie Guaba '10 received the Stephani Kopolak Diaferia award for her strong academics, participation in the Gaelic and Italian clubs and demonstration of school spirit as a student Ambassador. In the "Serviam" spirit, she also gives her time to the middle school basketball team at Our Lady of Angels. Julissa Contreras '09 received the Karen Marsh award for her involvement in the school and her parish - St. Brendan's.
The school President, Mrs. Jane Martínez Dowling made the closing remarks and reminded the girls "that these four years are only the beginningand your education at Mount St. Ursula will last a lifetime". With their senior rings in hand, and with the help of family and friends, the student body proceeded to sing the school alma mater.
For each senior, Ring Day holds a special place in their heart. For Amanda Garcia '07, the most memorable moment of the day was the junior skit. "It was really funny and you could tell that they put a lot of time and thought into putting it together."
