The MSU Step Team Performs at Papal Youth Rally
The Academy of Mount St. Ursula is proud to announce that the Umoja Dare Steppers were selected by the Archdiocese of New York to perform at the Papal Youth Rally at St. Joseph's Seminary on Saturday, April 19, 2008.
The team, which was formed in 2005, is led by the team captain Jessica Watson '08. She runs meetings, creates routines, and teaches her team to not only be strong steppers, but to also be strong young women with dedication.
As the only Bronx all girls' Catholic high school selected to perform, the members of the team were both proud and excited to provide entertainment for the thousands of Catholic youth attending the rally. "For some, it is a way to strengthen their faith and experience a day of unity with the Catholic youth. For others, it is an opportunity to be a part of history," stated the team moderator Ms. Manessis.
The MSU Step Team incorporates rhythm and dance, while establishing respect, responsibility, style, and discipline. Our practices and performances promote leadership and the development of character. Our mission is to familiarize the MSU community with this modern form of cultural dance in order to appreciate and unite different cultures. Our team name says it all-the Umoja Dare Steppers, which means Sisters United.
