MSU Students Selected for Youth Journalism Program
Megan Cerezo '08, Keona Campbell '09, Ashlee Harwood '09 and Michelle Jordan '09 were recently accepted into the Youth Journalism Program for Bronx high school students, sponsored by the Norwood News and the Mount Hope Monitor.
It is a 12 week program focusing on the fundamentals of writing, reporting, and photojournalism. Students will take field trips to the newsroom of a daily newspaper, attend rallies and community board and precinct council meetings. They will learn about community activism and civic responsibility, how their neighborhoods work (or don't), who has power and who doesn't and why. They will receive training in Photoshop for print and Web publication, how to create photo slide shows with audio for the Web, and the basics of Web video production. After completing the course, students will have a minimum of three published clips on the Web and in print, plus a recommendation letter from the program coordinator and the possibility of class credit. So if you reside in the Bronx, look out for these future journalists from MSU!
