ECOSCI is a dynamic group of students who are actively involved in studying environmental issues and applying our findings. Join us!

In 2007, we presented a workshop on "Fuel for Thought: Alternative Energy" at YouthCan, a telecommunications conference at the Museum of Natural History in NYC. YouthCan brings young people together from across the country and from many other nations to consider environmental issues of interest both locally and globally. The conference, planned and prepared by youth, offers exciting perspectives, an exchange of experiences and ideas, and hope for our earth's future and that of our young leaders.

Our team of AMSU students, led by Mrs. Gertrude Battaly, participated as presenters for our 13th year, longer than any other school. For each of those 13 years, our ECOSCI students studied an environmental topic of their choice, researched it, and prepared a workshop presentation. Their workshops include a dynamic powerpoint presentation, and various other activities, such as a skit written and performed by them, or game to involve the audience.

This year ECOSCI decided to focus on those alternative energy forms that offer promise in reducing the impacts of global warming. They compiled the results of their research into a well organized powerpoint presentation which ended with the chorus from "I Need to Wake Up". They also prepared a Jeopardy game composed of questions pertaining to the alternative energy forms included in the presentation: wind, solar, hydroelectric, and geothermal. It was a challenge and lots of fun! We also participate in the Science Olympiad.
