Bachelor of Science, Marymount College – Biology
Master of Science, Fordham University – Administration
I began my teaching career as a science teacher and retired (after 35+ years) as Assistant Principal Organization and Security from a NYC inner-city high school in 2001. I happily served as Assistant Principal at St. Philip Neri for 1 year, but was pleased to accept the invitation to return to a high school setting – I really missed that word Regents! Born and bred in the city, I attended St. James School, Cathedral and Marymount College(B.S. biology). The NSF provided my graduate science courses and Fordham University conferred the M.S. Administration degree. AMSU is a spiritual and educational haven with capable and caring colleagues and students – a great place to be after the Major Deegan wars and daily battles with parking spaces. I thank God for a wonderful family, 3 grandchildren and good friends. Life is good.

When you first meet Silvia Cabreja, you know you have met a woman who clearly loves her job. AMSU’s Director of Recruitment and Admissions comes to us from her alma mater, Mother Cabrini High School, where she was known for her upbeat, energetic manner, and for her hard-working approach to her responsibilities. Most importantly she was recognized as a relationship builder, a person the students liked, and the parents trusted and respected. Silvia is clearly happy to be at AMSU. A true believer in the value of same sex education, she doesn’t need to work at being convincing when she speaks to any listener about the worth of investing four years in a school with a proven track record for excellence. As the daughter of parents who immigrated from the Dominican Republic, she relates quickly and naturally to a diverse population. Comfortable in both Spanish and English, she is an available, encouraging presence, approachable and positive.
