The Discovery Guide Program is designed for youth, ages 15 and up, that have an interest in wildlife, science, education, conservation, or nature as a whole. Participants of the program will assist in a number of activities led by the Education Department, including exhibit activities for zoo guests, nature play, birthday parties, camp programs, and other special events. During their time as a volunteer at the Bronx Zoo, Discovery Guides will get free access to all of the WCS zoos & New York Aquarium, as well as a $300 stipend!
Not only is this an opportunity for students to have fun and learn, but for them to build important skills for the future. We will make information available regarding employment opportunities at the Bronx Zoo and the other WCS zoos and aquarium, and also offer training sessions that focus on resume building, public speaking, and more!
Students are invited to apply for our spring season (weekends & spring break between April 1 – June 24), our summer season (July 1 – September 4), our summer/fall season (July 1—October 29), or our full season (April 1—October 29). While some of the information on our webpage is currently outdated, the online application link, found at the bottom of the Bronx Zoo’s Discovery Guide page, is active for all 2017 seasons.
Students interested in applying for the upcoming spring season should submit their applications, including teacher recommendation form, no later than February 5, 2017. I’ve also attached a flyer to this email that has some specific information about the spring season; I encourage you to distribute it to other teachers and students!
